How do you match your solar inverter to your battery? Well, you should be able to leave it in your installer's capable hands. Unfortunately, we've seen some mind-blowing stuff regarding this in recent months, and we really have to write about it to hopefully help out a few in their decision-making process.
Firstly, you cannot just pair any battery and inverter together. Some products work better than others together and some don't work at all. We have seen many battery quotes in recent times putting products together that either don't work together, and do things like charge your battery at a 10th of the speed that it actually should. Making it nearly impossible, and a huge waste of energy, to charge your system up!
To help get around this you can do two things. Firstly, if you are technical and have a solid understanding of what you're doing, research your products and ask the company to supply you with exactly that. Do make sure though to double-check that they are correct, as we had a wonderful customer this week who had simply calculated the maths wrong on what they wanted, and we therefore had to redirect them to the correct products.
The second option is to you stick to matching brands for your inverter and Batteries. For example, Sungrow, which is the most installed hybrid inverter in Australia, and their Sungrow Batteries work amazing together. Or an Alpha ESS paring etc will make sure that your system works.
It is, unfortunately, a little more complex than that, but this will at least help you to get goods that are fit for purpose. It seems that like any new technology, solar and batteries are easy to confuse the public with and therefore take advantage of. They are great for certain people in certain situations, but please make sure you do your due diligence before parting with your money.
Stay sunny and charged, everyone.
